Your New Marine Invertebrates

Drip Acclimation

The process of getting your new marine invertebrates and plants accustomed to the conditions in your tank is known as acclimation. There are three main concerns:

  1. Temperature
  2. pH
  3. Salinity

We've found that the best method of acclimating your new livestock to the conditions of your tank is drip acclimation.

Use a length of airline tubing to slowly and continuously add aquarium water to the acclimation container. Start a siphon from the aquarium to the container, and tie a knot in the container end. Adjust the tightness of the knot until the water drips at a rate of one drop every 1-2 seconds. Allow the water to drip continuously for 45 minutes or longer.

Transfer your new inverts into the aquarium, and discard the water from the acclimation container. Do NOT put the water from the bag into your tank.
